The Green Car Journal “Green Car of the Year” award is given out at the Los Angeles Auto Show each year, and there are 5 finalists. The “Green Car Technology” Award is announced and presented at the Washington Auto Show.
Yesterday, at the Washington Auto Show, the 2014 Cadillac ELR and its regen on demand braking system beat out 9 other finalists and claimed the second annual “Green Car Technology” Award.
Green Car Journal presents the award to reward technologies that enable “significantly improved environmental performance in vehicles today,” so only new technologies that are in use during the award year are available for consideration.
Also in the running was the BMW carbon fiber passenger cell from the i3 electric vehicle, Hyundais’ hydrogen fuel cell technology that will be in the upcoming Tucson Fuel Cell vehicle, the plug-in hybrid powertrain on the Honda Accord, the Porsche plug-in hybrid powertrain, as well 6 other non-electric entries.
