Ahead of schedule, the Cadillac ELR sells 6 units in December

2014 Cadillac ELR blacked out

Originially destined to arrive in January 2014, Cadillac started shipping ELR extended range electric vehicles from the GM Hamtramck, Michigan plant on December 17th.

According to InsideEVs, Cadillac was able to sell 6 of them before the end of the year!

Cadillac has said time and time again that the ELR will be available in limited supply, and of course, the Saks Fifth Avenue edition is even more exclusive. GM started the New Year with about 60 Cadillac ELR vehicles available for sale, so it will be interesting to see how fast they can move them off of the dealer parking lots and into driveways.

Originally debuted as the Cadillac Converj Concept, in August 2011 Cadillac announced the Converj concept would go into production as the Cadillac ELR, and starting prices would be lower than the $57,400 Tesla Model S.

General Motors first began assembly of pre-production ELR vehicles in May 2013. Those vehicles were built for testing purposes. Vehicles built for retail customers started in December 2013.

The Cadillac ELR has a 0-60mph time of 7.8 seconds and a top speed of 106 mph. The all-electric range of the ELR is 37 miles, and the total combined electric and gasoline range of the vehicle is 345 miles. Recharging the 16.5 kWh battery pack takes 12.5 to 18 hours using the 120-volt travel charger, and about 5 hours using a Level 2 charging station.
